Featured in ‘the meeting professional’: On using AI in event management

I use AI for gut checks. I don't hand it the contract.

The latest issue of The Meeting Professional asked a group of MPI planners how we're actually using AI right now. My answer: sparingly, with clear lines.

It's found me an off-the-beaten-track property I didn't know existed. It's quick for a registration rate forecast, or a second opinion when I'm weighing a specific contract clause.

What I won't put into it: a full contract, registrant details, anything proprietary. Reading the fine print is still the human's job, and I want it that way.

I'm also not sold on the environmental cost yet. When I read how many natural resources this technology burns through, part of me hesitates every time I open it.

That interview was back in April, and the honest update is that I've gone much deeper since. I'm building things now, not just running the occasional gut check. The line hasn't moved though. The contract, the proprietary details, the human judgment, that all still stays with me. The tools have just gotten more useful around the edges of that.

Good company to be in. Thanks to MPI and The Meeting Professional for including me.
